Lo más reciente en BroadwayWorld Mexico: Celebración del Día Mundial del Teatro 2012

¿De dónde proviene la idea de esta magna celebración?

Instituído desde 1961 por The International Theatre Institute (ITI), se celebra cada 27 de marzo por toda la comunidad teatral mundial y por aquellos centros representantes del ITI alrededor del orbe. Uno de los eventos más importantes de dicha celebración es la circulación del tradicional Mensaje Anual, donde año con año se invita a una personalidad que comparte sus reflexiones sobre el tema, no sólo para hablar de la difusión de la cultura teatral, sino también sumar el mensaje de crear una verdadera cultura de paz a través del teatro.

El primer mensaje fue escrito por Jean Cocteau, de Francia, en 1962, y a partir de ahí, un verdadero desfile de figuras del arte escénico han compartido su sentir y reflexiones sobre el teatro y la paz. De acuerdo, con los registros del ITI, han sido invitados a dar su mensaje:

En efecto, para este 2012, John Malkovich fue invitado a dar el mensaje que conmemorará el 50 Aniversario del Día Mundial del Teatro. 

A continuación se presenta el texto original en inglés que dedicó Malkovich:

Message of the 50th anniversary of World Theatre Day

"I'm honored to have been asked by the International Theatre Institute ITI at UNESCO to give this greeting commemorating the 50th anniversary of World Theatre Day. I will address my brief remarks to my fellow theatre workers, peers and comrades.

May your work be compelling and original. May it be profound, touching, contemplative, and unique. May it help us to reflect on the question of what it means to be human, and may that reflection be blessed with heart, sincerity, candor, and grace. May you overcome adversity, censorship, poverty and nihilism, as many of you will most certainly be obliged to do. May you be blessed with the talent and rigor to teach us about the beating of the human heart in all its complexity, and the humility and curiosity to make it your life's work. And may the best of you - for it will only be the best of you, and even then only in the rarest and briefest moments - succeed in framing that most basic of questions, "how do we live?" Godspeed."
